Pension saved for serving member

A member of the armed forces came to us and explained that his marriage had come to an end.

Although he had been in the armed forces for 20 years, he and his wife had only been married for 8 of these.

When they were divorcing, his wife said that she wanted a 50% pension sharing order with regards to our client’s pension. This would mean that when he retired, 50% of his income for life and 50% of his lump sum would become hers.

After negotiations with our client’s wife, our solicitor persuaded her to accept a £10,000 lump sum, which would be paid to her when our client received his lump sum, when he retired.

This meant that our client could keep what was left of his lump sum, together with all of his income on retirement for life.
