Deciding whether or not to enter into a divorce can be a difficult and confusing time.

Emotions can run high and you may wonder whether you have made the right decision.

Even if you are unsure whether you want to proceed to a divorce it is often worth getting specialist legal advice. This can not only help to make you feel more informed and in control, but it can also be essential if you are a high net worth individual and you or your spouse could file for divorce in another country’s jurisdiction.

Whilst it makes no difference in English and Welsh law who files for divorce first, this is not always the case in other jurisdictions. Obtaining legal advice as soon as possible can help you to understand if any other jurisdiction could have a say in your case and how your finances are decided. If you don’t want to go ahead with your divorce or you want to stop the proceedings, you can do this at any time in the process up until the decree absolute.

Austin Kemp’s team of specialist solicitors can guide you through this often difficult process and are able to offer advice if your case needs to go through international courts.
